Introduction to Equine Chronic Pain - October 2024

Overview

This two-day course will explore the complexities and challenges of the equine chronic pain patient through a series of lectures, practicals and workshop sessions. We will critically evaluate available models and tools for understanding and assessing pain in our patients, for example breaking pain down into sensory, emotional, cognitive and motor components to better understand the impact of chronic pain on the horse and using pain scoring systems to monitor response to treatment. We will consider the ethical and welfare implications of chronic pain to improve treatment plans, owner communication and decision making based on quality of life. Delegates will be equipped with practical tools to evaluate, manage, and monitor chronic pain to provide the highest quality of care for their patients.
