The thinking behind this…..
Our community (chronic pain, acupuncture, behaviour, physiotherapy, herbal medicine…..) is growing, but still quite an infant within the profession.
We all sometimes (or often) feel frustrated by our colleagues not apparently “getting it”, either overall, or in terms of a particular patient; and it is easy for “imposter syndrome” to creep in. Some of us work on our own and might feel isolated; many of our patients and owners are complex and challenging; it can be easy to lose sight of the Long View: of the “why” we are doing what we do, let alone how, and when, we may have the opportunity to grow further in our knowledge or our business.
Yet, this professional world in which we find ourselves is also very rewarding, as many of you expressed around last year’s symposium, therefore, wouldn’t it be great to be able to do more of what you already do so well, and do it better; to do more with less; to make more of a difference?
The why and the who
The why will take centre stage. The who is someone we met in Milan airport about ten years ago. We were chatting about how we might engage colleagues to teach better, and who should be standing behind us in the queue but Jeff Perlis, whose passion and focus just happens to be about this, and so much more…. He puts the humanity back into business, communication, and the art of dealing with daily challenges. He has a sense of fun and adventure that makes learning engaging and compelling.
“Tell me, and I forget. Teach me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will learn”. (Franklin).
Prepare to be involved!
The day
We can promise you a dynamic, interactive, thought-provoking morning – you will honestly never quite look at things in quite the same way again.
After one of Nancy’s long and delicious lunches, Sam will continue what we are dubbing “The Lundeberg Papers”. No Swedish accent, but the essence of the magic that Thomas has woven together out of the veterinary research and from his own research and experience: a framework for treating canine OA; feline pain and feline analgesia; the importance of touch; fear of the veterinary clinic and more. The brain picture and the big picture.
And, as always, a chance to discuss cases; air hot topics with cool heads, before relaxing with friends and an excellent dinner.
PLACES ARE LIMITED TO JUST 15 SO PLEASE BOOK QUICKLY TO SECURE YOUR PLACE!
VENUE AND DINNER
Overtown Manor is small and most of the rooms will have been taken by the speakers but there are loads of good Air BnBs, pubs etc around. However, please contact Nancy on Nancy@overtownmanor.co.uk as you will not be able to book online.
Dinner on Saturday 29th will be at Pinos of Marlborough – a lovely family run Italian restaurant vegan, GF) and we will aim to arrange pick up and drop off on a first come, first in the seat basis (16 places). As has become traditional, WVAG will pick up the drinks tab! A thank you to you all who have supported and promoted veterinary acupuncture.
